The LiLu Handbag Project

Teens Helping Teens Since 2000

During these hard economic times, the first thing that comes to mind is how it will affect us; Will I be able to afford college?  Will I be able to retire on time?  But what about the people that were having a tough time before the recession, or, more importantly, the kids and teens who were struggling before our country’s economy collapsed?  Where will they go as more and more people are becoming homeless and seeking refuge at already over-crowded shelters?

Some Sacramento kids seek shelter, as well as education, from the WIND Center and Shelter, where they always have something to do and a place to stay.  It provides stability for them, even if everything else in their lives is uncertain.  But like any non-profit organization, funds are never everlasting and the WIND Center is no exception.

That’s where the LiLu Handbag Project comes in.  Since 2000, local high school girls (and guys) have worked hard year-round to sew high-quality handbags and other accessories worthy of being in our annual fashion show and silent auction.  With the help of Mira Loma, McClatchy, and Rio Americano High Schools, LiLu has raised thousands of dollars that has directly benefited the youths that depend on the WIND Center the most.
